How to get rid of fruit flies/gnats over night naturally!

I know, it’s that time of year…time to sail and float, time for bbq’s and gardening, campfires and and delicious fruit leaving fruit flies in your kitchen.  Being that they can lay up to 500 eggs per day leaving your kitchen a battlezone, it’s essential to get them under control.

You don’t have to live with them, nor do you have to resort to chemicals.  The good news is there are many common natural products and plants that will force them to relocate as fast as they can fly….don’t forget to leave a door or window open so they don’t just go occupy another area of your home!

For fruit flies and gnats if you have a garden you can clip some basil and hang it, put it in a stand for make a sachet by crumbling it and putting it in a muslin sack or cheesecloth.

You can do the same with fresh peppermint sprigs as well. I just put some basil here in my knife block and it got rid of them in no time.  Seriously all fruit flies/gnats relocated in less than an hour!

You can also use essential oils like camphor, lavender, peppermint, clove or lemongrass.  You can dab a drop or two on cotton swabs, or any type of cloth to get them to vacate while you make your house smell like heaven.  It’s good for the soul too!

If you don’t have any of the above you can try adding some pennyroyal, bay leaves and eucalyptus.  Crush them up and hang in bags around your house.

This should take care of your fruit fly problem during these summer months where they are more prevalent and keep your kitchen to yourself!  🙂
